Community invited to Coventry & Warwickshire remembrance event for anyone bereaved by suicide
Amparo is inviting anyone affected by suicide to join a special community remembrance event in Leamington Spa this August.
Taking place on Saturday 29 August, the afternoon offers a gentle opportunity to remember loved ones, connect with others who understand, and spend time together in a safe and supportive environment.
Beginning at Brunswick Community Hub, guests will be welcomed by the Amparo team before taking part in creating a memorial stone. Those who wish to can write or decorate a stone in memory of someone special before joining a guided walk to the nearby canal, where the stones will be placed together as a lasting tribute.
Following the walk, everyone will return to the bandstand to share refreshments, with the opportunity to listen to – or, if you feel comfortable, share – poems, memories or reflections in honour of loved ones.
The walk will be led by trained counsellor Nick Wilkins, supported by volunteer back marker Sheila Coughlan and local family support worker Jayne Thomas, helping to ensure everyone can take part at their own pace.
Whether your bereavement was recent or many years ago, you are warmly welcome.
There is no expectation to speak or participate in every activity. Many people simply come to walk alongside others, reflect quietly and remember.
The event is organised by Amparo, Listening Ear’s specialist service providing free emotional and practical support to anyone affected by suicide across Coventry and Warwickshire.
