listening ear

Amparo is delivered by Listening Ear, a nationwide charity with over 25 years’ experience of supporting people through bereavement.

In response to a lack of available bereavement therapy support, Listening Ear began in 1993 as a ‘reflective listening’ service run by community volunteers. With funding from The Steve Morgan Foundation in 2004, Listening Ear established one of the first age-appropriate bereavement therapy services for children and young people.

The service professionalised and became a registered charity in 2006 with Listening Ear’s adult counselling service becoming the first service in Merseyside to achieve Accredited status with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) with the children’s service achieving accreditation in 2019.

In 2015, Listening Ear launched Amparo, one of the first suicide Postvention services in the country. This has now grown to be the largest service of its kind, providing support for over 30% of the English population.

Our service is currently available to people living or working in Cheshire & Merseyside, Coventry & Warwickshire, Kent & Medway, Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Mid and South Essex, North Central London, Southampton, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Portsmouth, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, Thames Valley, and serving personnel within the British Armed Forces.

Your referral is strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone. The only exception to this is if there is an immediate risk of harm to you, the client or any other members of the community.
