Life After Loss is a short film – created to support individuals navigating the complex and often misunderstood experience of traumatic bereavement – particularly following suicide.
At its heart are people who courageously share their personal stories of losing a loved one to suicide and who were supported by Amparo, a postvention suicide support charity. The aim of the film is to share their lived experience and in turn help others feel less alone and more empowered to seek support. A common thread that ran throughout the interviews is that Life After Loss is possible and there is always hope.
About the Project
Filmed in Hampshire in early 2025, Life After Loss was made possible thanks to additional Uplift support via Hampshire & Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board (ICB). The funding came from a national Suicide Prevention initiative supported by the Department of Health and Social Care. It was made possible by the support of Hampshire County Council -Southampton City Council, Portsmouth City Council and Isle of Wight Council
Why It Matters
The video was developed to encourage help-seeking behaviour and reduce the stigma surrounding grief after suicide. It offers reassurance, relatable experiences, and practical guidance for those struggling to find the right words or the right moment to reach out.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in bringing #LifeAfterLoss together, especially the volunteers who shared their stories.
